The difference between “listing your home” and actually selling it.


Experience shows that 2 things sell a home. Marketing and Price. My job as a real estate consultant is to market the home to every potential buyer so we can get the most exposure. The sellers job is to price it so that it actually draws the highest amount of traffic so it will generate the most amount of offers which I will negotiate to the highest possible price.

Green Sustainable Home Products


It’s all the rage; “Going Green” and “Sustainable”. These are a couple of terms you might hear.

Are the products affordable? Do they last? Are the products that work in Northern California good for other areas of the state or even the country?

Taking your time to do the research is very important, and with the internet, that research is made much easier. Talking to professionals is also of value, because, each time you will learn something new to ask the next professional.
Below is a start with some products that help you in your search for flooring, roofing, countertops and insulation, just to name a few.
It is worth the research effort and maybe even the extra dollars, because, the alternatives are dreadful.
I just watched the movie Blue Vinyl, for the second time, and it is once again sobering…I recommend you watch it if you have the opportunity. It effects all of us in ways you may not have considered, and that alone is of value. You can get the movie here: Blue Vinyl.

There are a number of materials that can be used to create sustainable flooring. Green Building Supply, a national retailer of sustainable building products, offers flooring made from bamboo and recycled cork, as well as a natural linoleum, which is completely biodegradable and non-toxic. If you’re installing tile, considering purchasing recycled tile made from discarded glass or porcelain. You can also purchase recycled or wool carpeting, both of which are recyclable, free of chemicals and biodegradable.


There are a number of different ways to incorporate sustainability into your roofing without sacrificing durability or efficiency. Green Building Supply recommends the EcoStar line of roofing products, which incorporates shingles made from recycled plastic and rubber. You may also consider a living or green roof, which incorporates the use of plants and other vegetation to insulate and protect your home.


There are a number of green countertop options to choose from. Green Building Supply offers countertops made from bamboo as well as recycled materials. Both PaperStone and Richlite manufacture countertops made from recycled paper, while Vetrazzo countertops are made from recycled glass. Forbo also produces a line of natural linoleum countertops, which are made from linseed oil, wood flour, natural pigments, limestone and tree rosins.


Insulation is one of the most important components of your home and it can directly affect your home’s energy usage. The U.S. Green Building Council’s Green Home Guide recommends several different types of green insulation. Cellulose insulation is made from wood fibers or pulp and is typically made from 75 percent recycled materials. Cotton made from recycled denim or other textiles can also be used as insulation. Mineral wool made from steel slag or natural rock can contain anywhere from 75 percent to 90 percent recycled materials.

The soft and decorative side of staging is backed by hard facts.

Real estate agents like great-looking homes because they are easier to sell. Why is that important?

  • An agent’s job is to please their clients, and they will direct their buyers to the homes they think they will buy.
  • Agents talk to other agents who are also directing their buyers to the best homes on the market. An attractive listing will be shown more often, meaning more market exposure—critical for a quick and profitable house sale.
  • Staging is non-negotiable in many parts of the country. Staging a listing for sale in an area where the concept hasn’t caught on can give you an advantage, particularly if there are many unsold listings similar to yours on the market. Buyers gravitate to listings that look good and are in move-in condition.
  • Buyers are looking for value. When prices are flat or on the decline, buyers need to perceive that the house is worth the price.
